Da Paolo Gastronomia- Tiramisu

I walked into the cafe... excited, expectant, drooling in anticipation. Looking around I quickly tried to spot where my prize was. Was it up there, featured on the menu? Or was it amongst the wide spread of displayed desserts at the counter?

Disappointment sank in when I couldn't see it, thinking that I had done my research wrong and ended up at the wrong place. But I turned my head, and.... there it was! Hidden in an inconspicuous corner in the refrigerant section along with all the other cakes. Laughing to myself I walked toward my prize, feeling as if I'd found my chest of gold in this little treasure hunt.

That's right everybody, it's none other than Gastronomia Da Paolo's Tiramisu cake!

See, the thing about this treasure is that it's looks will trick you. Honestly, when I first set my eyes on it after hearing that it costs a bomb and that it came from a supposedly well-known place, I was thoroughly upset and disappointed because... let's just say that it looks like someone spat out half-digested food and tried to make it look edible by sprinkling some cocoa powder at the top.

So I hesitantly scooped up a portion, popped it into my mouth... and boy! Did it blow my socks away! Never, never judge a book by it's cover because this baby is absolutely delicious! From it's coat of cocoa powder at the top to its various layers of Mascarpone cream and Sarvoiardi biscuits, everything simply melted in my mouth. It is the perfect balance of cream, coffee and liquor. As this other blogger mentioned, the multiple layers are so smooth they seem to be as one, and each spoonful is a heavenly treat. And I'll agree with every this blogger says.

Well, don't only take my word alone for it! Da Paolo Gastronomia's Tiramisu is on ladyironchef's "Top 10 Cakes in Singapore" list, and also said to be the best in Singapore by OpenRice reviews.

Da Paolo Gastronomia Tiramisu's Rating: 9.5/10

Ranging from $7.50, $11.80 and $21.80, these cakes are available in 3 size portions, and packaged in Da Paolo Gastronomia's trademark boxes. Personally, I think the smallest sized portion (which was what I bought) is just right for one person. The medium sized one would be good to share with 2-3 friends, and the largest with your family! Well, I guess it also depends on how much you like the cake.

Array of cakes Gastronomia offers
I went down to the branch at Bukit Timah, and here is the address:

Have fun eating this awesome cake!

Cedele- Carrot Walnut Cake

Tadah! This time round, I've tried Cedele's very highly praised Carrot Walnut Cake.

I was thinking... " Okay. So which cake to try this time round? "

So I did a little reasearch online, and this was the website that I came across with Cedele's Carrot Walnut Cake on it's " Best Cakes Around Singapore" list.

I thought," Yes, why not Cedele's Carrot Cake this time round?" I've heard on and off from the people around me that this cake is a good one. And what's more, I came across this blog that did a little competition for the best carrot cake in Singapore! And Cedele's came out as the top.

Thus began my little adventure to try this cake. I grabbed a friend along, and together we went down to the branch at Novena for some food tasting.

This, is the result:

Don't the pictures make it look appetising? I'd say that the cake has lived up to all the praises that come from the different people that have eaten it. It's quite a tall cake, so trying to cut through the entire piece might be challenging. You may end up trying to eat it by the cream, nut, or cake alone, which then makes it too sweet, too bitter, or too bland. My suggestion would be to eat them all together! That's when the sweetness of the icing, the bitterness of the walnuts and the blandness of the carrot cake make it Cedele's highly popular, awesome and delicious Carrot Walnut Cake.

Cedele's Carrot Walnut Cake's Rating: 7.5/10

Cedele is offering a promotion which would make it a very good time to head down now. And if your taste is not on the side of carrot cake goodness, you can always try the array of other cakes Cedele offers!

Here is Cedele's official website link, where you'll be able to find more information about their various cakes, and the address of each outlet in Singapore.

I hope, that you'll enjoy this cake as much as I have!

Food For Thought- Old Southern Red Velvet Cake

Old Southern Red Velvet Cake

What made this cake stand out amongst the variety Food For Thought offered, was it's quaint and unique name. It tastes as demure as its name suggests, blending the taste of cocoa, white chocolate, and cream together to make it delectable.

It is mostly a sponge cake, with a strip of delicious cream in it's center and top to give it a variation of taste, peppered with pink hued white choocolate flakes at the top to tease your taste buds with it's sweetness.

It costs about SGD$6.50 each, which is a little pricey for such a small cake. But for those adventurers out there, who loves trying different types of cakes as much as I do, this is one that is not to be missed!

Old Southern Red Velvet Cake Rating: 5.5/10

I would recommend the outlet at Botanic Gardens, due to it's ambience. You would feel comfortable there, and it's the perfect place to bring a few friends along to chill and hang out because they have long tables that would fit large groups of people!
